Community Interest Statement

Own Your Life Writing is a registered C.I.C. (Community Interest Company), a not-for-profit organization based in the UK. This means we generate income like any other company, but the profits are reinvested back into the business or used to further its social objectives. It allows us to partner with charities, seek funding, and bring our activities to a wide range of populations.

Own Your Life Writing’s activities provide benefit to people interested in the transformative power of life writing and storytelling in both local and virtual communities by training and educating on the subject, facilitating workshops and events, and publishing and disseminating stories.

We offer the community educational tools and resources to give people the confidence, skills, and support to explore, process, and write their own life experiences. This promotes positive mental health and well-being, self-worth, and personal expression.

We facilitate in-person and virtual workshops and events for people to create and share their life writing with others. This encourages people in communities to engage and connect in a personal and meaningful way.

We are growing an archive of personal stories both digitally and in-print that can be used to support and encourage life writing and storytelling in the community. This preserves social history, creates opportunities for writers to have their stories read, and allows readers to learn and understand from writers with varied experiences and backgrounds.

If the company makes any surplus, it will be used for reinvesting in activities aligned with the objectives of the company.
